Reading Goal

This year each student in our class is working toward a reading goal of 35 books. We will be reading from different genres to broaden our reading interests and expose us to different styles of literature. For each student to stay on track with their goal, they should be reading about one book per week. It sounds like a lot, but some genres have shorter books than others. Longer books may also count as more than one. Students get time to read at school and should be reading at least 20 minutes at home each day. Each student has a daily reading log that they will fill out every day at home and Mrs. Boersma will check it at school on Wednesdays.

 

After finishing a book, students present it in a book commercial to Mrs. Boersma. During a book commercial, the student gives an oral summary of the book and then has to answer questions about what they read. Then, they record it in their folder and get a sticker for the reading goal chart.  All of their reading goal materials stay organized in a blue folder at school. The different genre types are explained below:
